A MONTH WITH MARY MOTHER OF GOD by PETER SCHINELLER S.J.

DAY 1.                GOD CHOSE MARY - THE
                                 ANNUNCIATION
(Prayer of the faithful. I)

HYMN

OPENING PRAYER:              let us pray:
Almighty father of our lord Jesus Christ, you have revealed the beauty of your power by exalting the lowly virgin of Nazareth and making her the mother of our saviour. May the prayers of this woman bring Jesus to a waiting world and fill the void of incompletion with the presence of her child, who lives and reign with you and rite Holy spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING: Luke 1:26-38

In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee named Nazareth to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The Virgin's name was Mary. Upon arriving, the angel said to her. "Rejoice, O highly favoured daughter! The lord is with you. Blessed are you among women." She was deeply troubled by this words, and wondered what his greeting meant. The angel went on to say to her: "Do not fear, Mary. You have found favour with God, You shall conceive and bear a son and give him the name Jesus. Great will be his dignity and of David his father. He will rule over the house of Jacob forever and his reign will be without end."

Mary said to the angel, "How can this be since I do not know man?" The angel said to her:  "The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; hence, the holy offspring to be born will be called Son of God. Know that Elizabeth your kinswoman has conceived a son in her old age; she who was thought to be sterile is now in her sixth month, for nothing is impossible with God.  "Mary said, "I am the servant of the Lord. Let it be it be done to me as you say." With that the angel left her.

REFLECTION
We are grateful to God for sending the Redeemer and grateful to Mary for her yes. Mary is the woman of faith and the servant of the Lord.

O Mary, virgin most prudent, Mother most merciful, pray for us, intercede for us with our lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

DAY 2              THE VISITATION AND                                                        MARY'S                                                               MAGNIFICENT
(Prayer of the faithful.  II. )

Eternal Father, you inspired Virgin Mary, mother of Sion, to visit Elizabeth and assist her need. Keep us open to the work of your spirit, and with Mary may we praise you for ever. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING

Luke 1:39-56
There upon Mary set out, proceeding in haste into the hill country to a town of Judah, where she entered Zachariah's house and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leapt in her womb. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and cried out in a loud voice: "Best are you among women and blest is the fruit of your womb. But who am l that the mother of my Lord should come to me? The moment your greeting sounded in my ears, the baby leapt for for joy, Blest is she who trusted that the Lord's words to her would be fulfilled.

Then Mary said:

"My being proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit finds joy in God my saviour, for he has looked upon his servant in her lowliness; all ages to come shall call me blessed. God who is mighty has done great things for me, holy is his name; His mercy is from age to age on those who fear him. "He has shown might with his arm; he has confused the proud in their inmost thought., He has deposed the mighty from their thrones and raised the lowly to high places. The hungry he has given every good thing, while the rich he has sent away empty. He has upheld Israel his servant, ever mindful for his mercy; Even as he promised our fathers, promised Abraham and his descendants for ever."
Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months and then return home.

REFLECTION

Mary, model of love, filled with the love of God, visit her cousin Elizabeth. We too must be strong in love of God and neighbor.

CONCLUDING PRAYER:

PRAYER OF DEDICATION TO MARY;
Virgin full of goodness Mother of mercy I entrust to you my body and soul, my thoughts and my actions, my life and my death. O my Queen, come to my aid and deliver me from the snare of the devil.                                          (St Thomas Aquinas)

DAY 3.                  JESUS, SON OF MARY,
                            BORN IN BETHLEHEM
(Prayer of the faithful. VIII. )
OPENING PRAYER
Let us pray in the name of Jesus, born of a virgin and of God.
Father, source of light in every age, the virgin conceived and bore your son who is called Wonderful, God, prince of peace.
May her prayer, the gift of mother's love, be your people's joy through all ages. May her response, born of a humble heart, draw your spirit to rest on your people.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.

SCRIPTURE READING.      Luke 2:1-14
In those days Caesar Augustus published a decree ordering a census of the whole world. This first census took place while Quirinus was governor of Syria. Everyone went to register, each to his own town. And so Joseph went from the town of Nazareth of Galilee of Judea, to David's town of Bethlehem - because he was of the house and lineage of David - to register with Mary, his espoused wife, who was with child.

While they went there the days of her confinement were completed. She gave birth to her first born son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manager, because their was no room for them in the place where travelers lodged.

There were shepherd in that region, living in the field and keeping night watch by turns over their flocks. The angel of the Lord appeared to them as the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were very much afraid the angel said to them: "You have nothing to fear! I come to proclaim good news to you - riding of great joy to be shared by the whole people. This day in David's city a saviour has been born to you, the Messiah and Lord. Let this be a sign to you; in a manger you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes."

Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, "Glory to God in high heaven, peace on earth to those on whom his favour rest."

REFLECTION
The birth of Jesus, son of Mary, is good news and joy for us and all people. We too receive new life through his coming.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
O Mary, who alone of all women are a mother and virgin, the happiest of mothers and purest of virgins, we who are impure come to visit and address ourselves to you who are pure and to reverence you with a poor offerings, such as they are. May your don enable us to imitate your Most Holy life, that we may deserve by the grace of the Holy Spirit, to conceive the Lord Jesus in our hearts and never to lose him.
Amen.

DAY 4.             THE SHEPHERD FIND MARY
                           AND THE CHILD JESUS
(Prayer of the faithful.  IV.  )
OPENING PRAYER
Father, you prepare the heart of the Virgin Mary to be a fitting home for your Holy Spirit. By her prayers may we become more worthy temple of your glory.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.      Luke 2:15-21
When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to one another:  "Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this event which the Lord has made known to us." They went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger; once they saw, they understood what had been told them concerning this child. And all who heard of it were astonished at the report given them by the shepherds.
Mary treasured all this these things and reflected on them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, in accord with what had been told them.
When the eighth day arrived for his circumcision, the name Jesus was given the child, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.

REFLECTION
Like the shepherds we must desire and seek to be with Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

CONCLUDING PRAYER

Prayer to the immaculate Heart of Mary for Holiness;

Immaculate Heart of Mary, perfect model of sanctity, take my soul and mold it according to your sublime perfections. Purify my heart and set it free from every obstacle to holiness so that, selfless and pure. you may adorn it with the virtues and perfection of your own  Immaculate Heart.
Then lead my soul to that divine intimacy which alone can satisfy the immense capacity for love and union with which God has created the human heart. From you I confidently hope for this grace of Holiness and I entrust my eternal destiny to your Immaculate Heart. Amen.

DAY 5.             MARY'S CHILD IS A LIGHT
                               TO THE NATIONS
(Prayer of the faithful.  V.  )
OPENING PRAYER
Eternal Father, we honour the holiness and glory of the Virgin Mary. May her prayers bring us the fullness of your life and love.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit one God. For ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.       Luke 2:22-35
When the day came to purify them according to the law of Moses, the couple brought him up to Jerusalem so that he could be presented to the Lord. For it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every first born male shall be consecrated to the Lord." they came to offer in sacrifice "a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons", in accord with the dictate in the law of the Lord.
There lived in Jerusalem at the time a certain man named Simeon. He was just and pious, and awaited the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
It was revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not experience death until he had seen the anointed of the Lord. He came to the temple now, inspired by the Spirit, and when the parents bought in the child Jesus to perform for him the customary ritual of law, he took him in his arms and blessed God in this words:

"Now, Master, you can dismiss your servant in peace; you have fulfilled your word. For my eyes have witnessed your saving deed displayed for all the people to see! A revealing light to the Gentiles, the glory of your people Israel."
The child father and mother were marveling at what was been said about him. Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother: "This child is destined to be the downfall and the rise of many in Israel, a sign that will be opposed - and you yourself shall be pierced with a sword so that the thought of many hearts may be laid bare."

REFLECTION
Jesus, the son of Mary, is the light of all people. He wants to remove all darkness from my life.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Mary, most holy Virgin and Queen of Martyrs, accept the sincere homage of my child like love. Welcome my poor soul into your heart pierced by so many sorrows at the  foot of the cross on which Jesus died for the redemption of the world.
Sorrowful Virgin, in union with you I will gladly suffer all the trials, misunderstandings, and pains which our Lord lets me endure. I offer them all to you in memory to your sorrows, so that every thought of my mind and every beat of my heart may be an act of compassion and love for you. Loving mother, have pity on me and reconcile me to your divine Son. Keep me in his grace and assist me in my last agony, so that I may be able to meet you in heaven and sing your glories.

Mary most sorrowful, Mother of Christians, pray for us. Mother of love, of sorrow, and of mercy, pray for us.

DAY 6                    THE HOLY FAMILY
                           RETURNS TO NAZARETH
(Prayer of the faithful.  III. )
OPENING PRAYER
Let us pray as family of God, who share in his life
Father in heaven, creator of all,  you ordered the earth to bring forth life and crowned its goodness by creating the family of man.
In history's moment when all was ready, you sent your Son to dwell in time, obidient to the laws of life in our world.

Teach us the sanctity of human love, show us the value of family life, and help us to live in peace with all men and women that we may share in your life forever.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

SCRIPTURE READING.         Luke 2:36-40
There was also a certain prophetess, Anna by name, daughter of phanuel of the tribe of Asher. She had seen many days, having lived seven years with her husband after her marriage and then as a widsow until she was eighty- four. She was constantly in the temple, worshipping day and night in fasting and prayer. Coming on the scene at this moment, she gave thanks to God and talk about the child to all who looked forward to the deliverance of  Jerusalem.
When the pair had fulfilled all the prescription of the law of the Lord they returned to Galilee and their own town of Nazareth. The child grew in size and strength, filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.

REFLECTION
Jesus grows in holiness under the loving care and example of Mary. So must we grow in holiness.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
O good Jesus, by the love with which you love your mother grant me, I pray, that I may love her truly, just as you love her truly and desire her to be loved.

O good mother, by the love with which you love your Son and desire Him to be loved. Obtain for me the grace, I pray you, to love Him truly as you truly love Him and desire Him to be loved.
(St.Anselm)

DAY 7.           MARY AND JOSEPH FIND
                         JESUS IN THE TEMPLE
(Prayer of the faithful.  IX.  )
OPENING PRAYER
Let us pray for peace in our families.
Father, help us to live as the holy family, united in peace and love. Bring us to joy and peace of your eternal home.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.           Luke 2:41-52
His parents used to go every year to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover, and when he was twelve they went up for the celebration as was their custom. As they were returning at the end of the feast, the child Jesus remained behind unknown to his parents. Thinking he was in the party, they continue their journey for a day, looking for him among their relatives and acquaintances.
Not finding him they returned to Jerusalem in search for him. On the third day they came upon him in the temple sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. All who heard him were amazed at his intelligence and his answers. When their parents saw him they were astonished, and his mother said to him: "Son, why have you done this to us? You see that your father and I have been searching for you in sorrow." He said to them: "why did you search for me? Did you not know that I had to be in my father's house?" But they did not grasp what what he said to them.
He went down with them then, and came to Nazareth, and was obidient to them. His mother meanwhile kept all this things in memory. Jesus for his part, progressed steadily in wisdom and age and grace before God and men.

REFLECTION
Mary begins to painfully understand the special mission of her son. Pain and suffering is not always due to sin.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Blessed Virgin Mary, who can worthily repay you with praise and thanks for having rescued a falling world by your generous consent! Receive our gratitude and by your prayers obtain the pardon of our sins. Take our prayers into the sanctuary of heaven and enable them to make our peace with God.
Holy Mary, help the miserable, strengthen the discouraged, comfort the sorrowful, pray for your people, plead for the clergy, intercede for all women consecrated to God. May all who venerate you feel now your help and protection.
Be ready to help us when we pray, and bring back to us the answers to our prayers. Make it your continual concern to pray for the people of God, for you were blessed by God and were made worthy to bear the Redeemer of the world, who lives and reigns forever.
(St Augustine of hippo)

DAY 8.         TO HEAR AND KEEP GOD'S
                         WORD LIKE MARY
(Prayer of the faithful.  X.  )
OPENING PRAYER
Lord, as we honour the glorious memory of the Virgin Mary, we ask that by the help of her prayers, we too may come to share the fullness of your grace.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.     Luke 8:16-21
Jesus said to the crowd: "No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bushel basket or under a bed; he puts it on a lampstand do that whoever comes in can see it. There is nothing hidden that will not be exposed, therefore, how you hear: to the man who has, more will be given; and he who has not, will lose even the little he thinks he has."
His mother and brothers came to be with him, but they could not reach him because of the crowd. He was told, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you." He told them in reply, " My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act upon it."

REFLECTION
Mary is foremost among those who hear the word of God and keep it. We should follow her example.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
O Mary, my dear mother, how much I love you. And yet in reality how little You do teach me what I ought to know for you teach me what Jesus is to me and what I ought to be for Jesus. Dearly beloved Mother, how close to God you are, and how utterly filled with Him. In the measure that we know God, we remind ourselves of you. Mother of God, obtain for me the grace of loving my Jesus; obtain for me the grace of loving you.

DAY 9            BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO
                          HEAR GOD'S WORD
(Prayer of the faithful.  VII. )
OPENING PRAYER
Lord God, give to your people the joy of continual health in mind and body.
With the prayers of the Virgin Mary to help us, guide us through the sorrows of this life to eternal happiness in the life to come. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.      Luke 11:27-32
While he was saying this a woman from the crowd called out, "Blest is the womb that bor you and the breasts that nursed you!" "Rather" he replied, "blest are they who hear the word of God and keep it."
While the crowds pressed around him he began to speak to them in this words: "This is an evil age. It seems a sign. But no sign, will be given it except the sign of Jonah. Just as Jonah was a sign for the Ninevites so will the son of Man be a sign for the present age. The queen of the south will rise at the judgement along with the men of this generation, and she will condemn them. She came from the farthest corner of the world to listen to the wisdom of Solomon, but you have a greater than Solomon hear. At the judgement, the citizens of Nineveh will rise along with the the resent generation, and they will condemn it. for at the preaching of Jonah they reformed, but you have a greater than Jonah here."

REFLECTION
Mary is blessed because she hears the word of God and keeps it. Do we have that same respect and love for God's word?

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Mary our mother, you consented in faith to become the mother of Jesus. At the angel's announcement, you received the word of God in your heart as well as I'm your body and you brought life to the world. You conceived in your heart, with your whole being, before you conceived in your womb.
Obtain for us a faith similar to your own which will enable us to hear the word of God and carry it out. Let us imitate your motherhood by our faith, bringing Christ to birth in others who have desperate need of him.

DAY 10.        MARY, THE NEW EVE
(Prayer of the faithful.  VI. )
OPENING PRAYER
God of mercy, give us strength. May we who honour the memory of the mother of God rise above our sins and failings with the help of her prayers.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING         Genesis 3:9-15.20
The Lord God then called to the man and asked him, "Where are you?" He answered, "I heard you in the garden; but I was afraid, because I was naked, so I hid myself." Then he asked. "Who told you that you were naked? You have eaten, then, from the tree of which I had forbidden you to eat!" The man replied " The woman whom you put here with me - she give me fruit from tree, and so I ate it."
The Lord God then asked the woman. "Why did you you do such a thing?" The woman answered, "The serpent tricked me into it, so I ate it."
Then the Lord God said to the serpent: Because you have done this, you shall be banned from all the animals and from all the wild creatures; on your belly shall you crawl, and dirty shall you eat all the days of your life. I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your offspring and hers; He will strike at your head, while you strike at his heal." The man called his wife Eve, because she is the mother of all the living.

REFLECTION
God promises new life through the child of Mary the new Eve. We received this new life in baptism.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Loving mother of the Redeemer, open door to heaven and star of the sea, come quickly to the aid of your people fallen indeed but striving to stand again. To nature astonishment you were the mother of your holy Creator without ceasing to be a Virgin, and heard from Gabriel that greeting "Hail," Have pity on us sinners.

DAY 11.      GOD'S PLAN IS FULFILLED
                       THROUGH ABRAHAM
(Prayer of the faithful.   I. )
OPENING PRAYER
Lord may the prayers of the Virgin Mary bring us protection from danger and freedom from sin that we may come to the joy of your peace. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING.     Genesis 12:1-7
The Lord said to Abram: "Go forth from the land of your kinsfold and from your father's house to a land that I will show you."
I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. All the communities of the earth shall find blessing in you."
Abram went as the Lord directed him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy five years old when he left Haran. Abram took his wife sarai, his brother's son Lot, all the possessions that they had accumulated, and the persons they had acquired in Haran and they set out for the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan. Abram passed through the land as far as the sacred place at Shechem, by the by the terebinth of Moreh.
(The Canaanites were then in the land)
The Lord appeared to Abram and said, "To your descendants I will give this land. So Abram built an alter there to the Lord who had appeared to him.

REFLECTION
God's plan of redemption continues through Abraham and his posterity, who include Mary. Abraham too is our father in faith.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
O Blessed Virgin Mary, united to the victorious Christ in heaven, you are the image and first - flowering of the church as she is to be perfected in the world to come.
You shine forth as a sign of sure hope and solace for the pilgrim people of God. In your Assumption, you manifest the fullness of redemption and appear as the spotless image of the Church responding in joy to the invitation of the Bridegroom your Son who is the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.
Grant that we may follow your example on earth thereby imitating your Son as well and being enabled to share your glory with him for all eternity.

DAY 12.            MARY SHARES IN THE
                            WISDOM OF GOD
(Prayer of the faithful.  V.  )
OPENING PRAYER
All powerful and ever-living God, you raised the sinless Virgin Mary, Mother of your Son, body and soul to the glory of heaven. May we see heaven as our final goal and come to share in her glory.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.        Proverbs 8:22-31
"The Lord begot me, the first-born of his ways, the forerunner of his prodigies of long ago; from of old I was poured forth, at the first before the earth, when there was no depths I was brought forth when there was no fountains of springs of water.
Before the mountains were settled into place, before the hills, I was brought forth; while as yet the earth and the fields were not made, nor the first cloud of the world.
"When he established the heaven I was there, when he marked out the vault over the lace of the deep; When he made firm the sky above, when he fixed fast the foundations of the earth; he set for the sea its limit, so that the waters should not transgress his command; then was I besides him as his Craftsman, and I was his delight day by day, playing before him all the while, playing on the surface of his earth; and I found delight in the sons of men.

REFLECTED
The wisdom of God is shared with his people, above all with Mary . We must live in God's wisdom.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
How can I ever begin to thank you, Mary, for the abundance of graces I have received through your hands. As a mother you have helped me in every need, comforted me in my troubles, shared my joy with me, strengthen me in temptation, counselled me in my problems, guided me along the path of virtue and purity, and thought me to know your divine Son. I will try to show my love and gratitude by making every action of my life as pleasing as possible to you my mother, and to your divine Son. Amen.

DAY 13.              MARY FILLED WITH THE
                               THE SPIRIT OF WISDOM
(Prayer of the faithful.  VI.  )

God our father, you give joy to the world by the resurrection of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Through the prayers of his mother, the Virgin Mary, bring us to the happiness of eternal life.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.  SIRACH (Ecclesiasticus)
                                .            24:1-6 and 16-21
Wisdom sings her own praises, before her own people she proclaims their glory; In the assembly of the Most High she opens her mouth; in the presence of his hosts she declared her worthy: "From the mouth of the Most High, I came forth, and mistlike covered the earth. In the highest heavens did I dwell, my throne on a pillar of cloud. The vault of heaven I compassed alone, through the deep abyss I wandered. Over waves of the sea, over all the land, over every people and nation I held sway.
I spread out my branches like a terebinth, my branches so bright and so graceful. I Bud forth delights like the vine, my blossoms become fruit fair and rich. Come to me, all you that yearn for me, and be filled with my fruits. You will remember me as sweeter than honey, better to have than the honeycomb.

He who eats of me will hunger still, he who drinks of me will thirst for more; He who obeys me will not be put to shame, he who serves me will never fail.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Mary, my Lady, Hope of christians, Queen of angels and the saints who are wit God in heaven. I commend myself to you, my lady, and to all saints, now, as if I were at the hour of death, to preserve me from the world, the flesh, and the devil - the enemies who plot with all their power against my soul, and hope in there malice to cast me into hell. Prevent this, most loving Mother, I pray and beseech you. Amen.
                  (St.francis Xavier)

DAY 14.                   WISDOM
                      LEADS TO SALVATION
(Prayer of the faithful. II.  )
OPENING PRAYER
Father in heaven, all creation rightly gives you praise, for all life and holiness come from you. In the plan of your wisdom
She who bore the Christ in her womb was raised in glory to be with him in heaven.
May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness and join in her hymn of endless life and praise. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING.       Wisdom 10:1-12
She preserved the first formed father of the world when he alone had been created; and she raised him up from his fall, and gave him power to rule all things.
But when the unjust man withdrew from her in his anger, he perished through his fratricidal wrath. When on his account the earth was flooded, wisdom again saved it, piloting the just man on frailest wood. She, when the nations were sunk in universal wickedness, knew the just man, kept him blameless before God, and preserved him resolute against pity for his child.
She delivered the just man from among the wicked who were being destroyed, when he fled as fire descended upon Pentapolis - Where as a testimony to its wickedness, there yet remain a smoking desert, plants bearing fruit that never ripens, and the tomb of a disbelieving soul, as a standing pillar of salt. For those who forsook wisdom first were bereft of knowledge right. And when they left mankind a memorial of their folly - so they could not even be hidden in their fall - but wisdom delivered from tribulations those who served her. She, when the just man fled from his brother's anger, guided him in direct ways, showed him the kingdom of God and gave him knowledge of holy things; She prospered him in his labours and made abundant the fruit of his works. Stood by him against the feed of his defrauders, and enriched him; She preserved him for foes, and secured him against ambush, and she gave him the prize for his stern struggle, that he might know the devotion to God is mighty than all else.

REFLECTION
The saving of God of wisdom was found fully in Mary, may we imitate her wisdom for our own salvation.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Most holy Mary, Virgin Mother of God.
I am unworthy to he your servant.
Yet moved by your motherly care for me and longing to serve you. I choose you this day to be my Queen, My Advocate, and my Mother's. I firmly resolve ever to be devotee to you and to do what I can to encourage others to be devoted to you.
My love Mother, through the precious Blood of your Son shed for me, I beg you to receive me as your servant forever.
Aid me in my actions and beg for me the grace, never by thought, word or deed, to be displeasing in your sight and that of your most holy Son. Remember me, dearest Mother, and do not abandon me at the hour of death.
      (ST.FRANCIS DE SALES)

DAY 15.          THE WORD TAKES FLESH,
                              BORN OF MARY
(Prayer of the faithful.  VII. )
OPENING PRAYER
Father, the birth of Christ your Son increased the virgin mother's love for you.
May his sharing in our human nature give us courage in our weakness, free us from our sins, and make our offering acceptable. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord.

SCRIPTURE READING.     John 1:1-14
In the beginning was the word; the word was in God's presence, and the Word was God. He was present to God in the beginning. Through him all things came into being, and apart from him nothing came to be. Whatever came to be in him, found life, life for the light of men. The light shines on in darkness, a darkness that did not overcome it, yet the world did not know who he was. To his own he came, yet his own did not accept him. Any who did not accept him he empowered to become children of God.
This are they who believe in his name who were begotten not by blood, nor by carnal desire, nor by man's willing it, but by God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we have seen his glory: The glory of an only son coming from the father, filled with enduring love.

REFLECTION
God's son, the Incarnate word, becomes flesh, born of the Virgin Mary.
We kneel in praise and wonder before this mystery.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Most gracious Virgin, you were chosen by the eternal counsel to be the Mother of the eternal Word made flesh, you are the treasurer of divine graces and the advocate of sinners. I who am your most unworthy servant have recourse to you. Graciously be my guide and counsellor in this valley of tears. Obtain for me, through the precious Blood of your divine Son, the forgiveness of my sins, the salvation of my soul, and the means necessary to obtain it. In like manner, obtain for holy church victory over her enemies and the spread of Jesus' kingdom over the whole earth.

DAY 16.          THE WEEDING FEAST
                                  AT CANA
(Prayer of the faithful.  IX.  )
OPENING PRAYER
All-powerful God, we rejoice in the protection of the holy Virgin Mary.
May her prayers help to free us from all evils here on earth and lead us to eternal joy in heaven.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.           John 2:1-12
On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus and his disciples had likewise been invited to the celebration. At a certain point the wine ran out, and Jesus'mother told him. "They have no more wine." Jesus replied, "Woman, how does this concern of yours involve me? My hour has not yet come."
His mother instructed those waiting on the table, "Do what ever he tells you to do." As prescribed for Jewish ceremonial washings, there were at hand six stone water jars, each one holding fifteen to twenty-five gallons. "Fill those jars with water," Jesus ordered, at which they filled them to the brim.
"Now," he said, "draw some out and make it to the waiter in charge." They did as he instructed them. The waiter in charge tested the water made wine, without knowing where it had come from; only the waite knew, since they had drawn the water. Then the waiter in charge called the groom over and remarked to him: "People usually serve the choice wine first: then when the guests have been drinking awhile, a lesser vintage. What you have done is keep the choice wine until now." Jesus performed this first of his signs at Cana in Galilee. This did he reveal his glory, and his disciples believed in him.
After this he went down to Capernaum, along with his mother and brothers and his disciples but they stayed there only a few days.

REFLECTION
Then and now, Mary intercedes with her Son for the needs of God's people. We turn to her in our needs.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Hail, by whom gladness will be enkindled;
Hail, by whom the curse will be quenched,
Hail, righting of the fallen Adam;
Hail, ransom of Eve's team.
Hail, height unscaled by human reasoning;
Hail, depth inscrutable even to angels' eyes.
Hail, for thou at the king's seat;
Hail, for thou bearest him who bears all.
Hail, thou star that makest the sun to shine:
Hail, thou womb of God's incarnation.
Hail, thou by whom all creation is renewed;
Hail, thou through whom the creator became a baby.
Hail, Mother unfilled.

DAY 17.         THERE IS YOUR MOTHER
(Prayer of the faithful. V.  )
OPENING PRAYER
Father, as your Son was raised on the cross, his mother Mary stood by him sharing his sufferings. May your Church be united with Christ in his suffering and death and so come to share in his rising to new life, where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.           John 19:23-27
After the soldiers had crucified Jesus they took his garments and divided them four ways, one for each soldier. There was also his tunic, but this tunic was woven in one piece from top bottom and had no seam. They said to each other, "We should not tear it. Let us throw dice to see who gets it," (the purpose of this was to have the scripture fulfilled: They divided my garments among them; for my clothing they cast lots ").
And this was the soldiers did.  Near the cross of Jesus there stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas and Mary Magdalene. Seeing his mother there with the disciples whom he loved. Jesus said to his mother, 'Woman, there is your Son". In turn he said to the disciples, "there is your mother," From that hour onward, the disciple took her into his care.

REFLECTION
Mary is fittingly called the mother of the apostles, and mother of the Church. She is our mother.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
My sorrowful Mother, by the merit of that grief which you felt at seeing your beloved Jesus led to death, obtain for me the grace to bear with patience those Crosses which God sends me. I will be fortunate if I also shall know how to accompany you with my cross until death. You and Jesus, both innocent, have borne a heavy cross and shall I, a sinner who has merited hell, refuse mine? Immaculate Virgin, I hope you will help me to bear my crosses with patience. Amen.
                                St Alphonsus Liguori.

DAY 18.       THE VIRGIN SHALL BE
                          WITH A CHILD
(Prayer of the faithful.  VIII.  )
OPENING PRAYER
Let us pray that Christ, the Word made flesh, will make us more like him.
God our father, your Word became man and was born of the Virgin Mary.
May we become more like Jesus Christ, whom we acknowledge as our redeemer, God and man.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.       Isaiah 7:10-14.
Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz: Ask for a sign from the Lord, your God: let it be deep as the either world, or high as the sky! But Ahaz answered. "I will not ask! I will not tempt the Lord! Then lie said: Listen O house of David! Is it not enough for you to weary men , must you also weary my God? Therefore the Lord himself will give you this sign: the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son and shall name him Emmanuel.

REFLECTION
God's plan of salvation is accomplished through Jesus, born of the virgin Mary. We place our trust in God who does not abandon the people.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Holiest Virgin, with all my heart I venerate you above all the angels and saints in heaven as the daughter of the Eternal Father, and I consecrate to you my soul with all its power.
Holiest Virgin, with all my heart I venerate you above all the angels and saints in heaven as the mother of the only begotten Son, and I consecrated to you my body with all its sense.
Holiest Virgin, with all my heart I venerate you above all the angels and saints in heaven as the beloved spouse of the Holy Spirit, and I consecrate to you my heart with all its affections.
Holiest Virgin, intercede for me with the Holy Trinity that I may obtain the graces I need for my salvation. To you I entrust all my womes and miseries, my life and the end of my life, so that all my actions may be directed by the divine plan.

DAY 19.         A CHILD IS BORN TO US.
(Prayer of the faithful.  VII. )
OPENING PRAYER
Let us pray that Mary, the mother of the Lord will help us by her prayers.
God our Father, may we always profit by the prayers of the Virgin Mary for you bring us life and salvation, through Jesus Christ her Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.    Isaiah 9:1-6
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; Upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom, a light has shone. You have brought them abundant joy and great rejoicing, as they rejoice before you as at the harvest, as men make merry when dividing spoils.
For the yoke that burdened them, the pole on their shoulder, and the rod of their taskmaster you have smashed, as on the day of Midian.
For every boot that tamped in battle, every cloak rolled in blood, will be burned as fuel for flames. For a child is born to us, a son is given; upon his shoulder dominion rests. They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace. His dominion is vast and forever peaceful. From David's throne, and over His kingdom, which he confirms and sustains by judgement and justice, both now and forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

REFLECTION
God redeems us through the child, Mary's Child. Does God's Son rule over our y?

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Mary, our mother, the whole world reveres you as the holiest shrine of the living God, for in you the salvation of the world dawned. The Son of God was pleased to take human form from you.
You have broken down the wall of hatred, the barrier between heaven and earth which was set us by man's first disobedience.
In you heaven met earth when divinity and humanity were joined in one person, the God-Man.
Mother of God, we sing your praises, but we must praise you ever more. Our speech is too feeble to honour you as we ought, for no tongue is eloquent enough to express your excellence. Mary, most powerful, most holy and worthy of all love! Your name brings new life and the thought of you inspires love in the hearts of those devoted to you.
                  St. Bernard.

DAY 20.             FROM BETHLEHEM COMES
                                   THE SAVIOUR
(Prayer of the faithful.  IV.  )
OPENING PRAYER
Lord, fill our hearts with your love, and as you revealed to us by an angel the coming of your Son as many, so lead us through his suffering and death, to the glory of his resurrection,
Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.     Micah 5:1-4
But you, Bethlehem-Ephrathan, too small to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel from ancient times. (Therefore the Lord will give them up until the time when she who is to give birth has borne and rest of his brethren shall return to the children of Israel). He shall stand firm and shepherd his flock by the strength of the Lord, in the majestic name of the Lord his God; and they shall remain, for now his greatness shall reach to the ends of the earth; he shall be peace. If Assyria invades our country and treads upon our land, we shall raise against it seven shepherds, eight men of royal rank.

REFLECTION
From Bethlehem shall come the saviour. From Bethlehem comes our peace

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Dear Mother Mary, I come to you to place my trust in you. I live in a world filled with temptations, a world where it is difficult to serve you and Christ, your Son. Despite these difficulties and my own weakness I know that with your motherly guidance and encouragement I can surmount the obstacles in my path. I place all my trust in you, Mary. For you are my mother, and always you are at my side. So great is my love that I place myself, body and soul in your hands now and forever. Amen.

(Prayer of the faithful.  X.  )
OPENING PRAYER
Let us pray that through the prayers of the sinless Virgin Mary, God will free us from our sins.
Father, you prepared the Virgin Mary, to be the worthy mother of your Son. You let her share before hand in the salvation Christ would bring by his death, and kept her sinless from the first moment of her conception.
Help us by her prayers to live in your presence without sin.
We ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.   Zachariah 2:14-17 (2:10
                                           -13 in Revised Standard
                                                  Version)
Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion! I am coming to dwell among you, says the Lord. Many nations shall join themselves to the Lord on that day, and they shall be his people, and he will dwell among you, and you shall know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you. The Lord will possess Judah as his portion in the holy land, and he will again choose Jerusalem. Silence, all mankind, in the presence of the Lord! for he stirs forth from his holy dwelling.

REFLECTION
We are filled with joy because God comes to save his people.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
O holy Mary, my Lady, into your blessed trust and special keeping, into the bosom of your tender mercy, this day, every day of my life, and at the hour of my death, I commend my soul and body. To you I entrust all my hopes and consolations, all my trails and miseries, my life and it's final close, that through your most holy intercession and your merits, all my actions may be ordered and disposed according to your will and that of your divine Son. Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING.      Zephaniah 3:14-20.
Shout for joy, O daughter Zion! sing joyfully, O Israel! Be glad and exult with your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem!
The Lord has removed the judgement against you, he has turned away your enemies; The king of Israel, the Lord is in your midst, you have no further misfortune to fear. On that day, it shall be said to Jerusalem: Fear not, O Zion, be not discouraged!
The Lord, your God, is in your midst, a mighty saviour; He will rejoice over you with gladness, and renew you in his love, He will sing joyfully because of you as one sings at festivals. I will remove disaster from among you, so that none may recount your disgrace. Yes, at that time, I will deal with all who oppress you. I will save the lame, and assemble the outcasts; I will give them praise and renown in all the earth, when I bring about their restoration.
At that time, I will bring you home, and at that time I will gather you: for I will give you renown and praise, among all the peoples of the earth. When I bring about your restoration before your very eyes, says the Lord.

REFLECTION
All God's people shall rejoice, shall share in the joy of Mary. God is with us, Emmanuel.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
My Queen, my Mother, I give myself entirely to you; and to show my devotion to you. I consecrate to you this day my eyes, my ears, my mouth my heart, my whole being without reserve. Since I am yours, my good mother, keep and guard me as your property and possession.

Hail Mary.

DAY 23.     MARY WITH CHILD THROUGH
                  THE POWER OF THE HOLY
                               SPIRIT
(Prayer of the faithful. III.  )
OPENING PRAYER
Father, in your plan for our salvation your word became man, announced by an anger and born of Virgin Mary.
May we who believe that she is the Mother of God receive the help of her prayers.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever
and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.   Matthew 1:18-25
Now this is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about.
When his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found with child through the power of the Holy Spirit. Joseph her husband, an upright man unwilling expose her to the law, decided to divorce her quietly. Such was his intention when suddenly the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream and said to him "Joseph, son of David, have no fear about taking Mary as your wife. It is by the Holy Spirit that that she has conceived this child." She is to have a son and you are to name him Jesus because he will save his people from their sins." All this happened to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet.
"The Virgin shall be with child and give birth to a son, and they shall call him Emmanuel." a name which means "God is with us." When Joseph awoke he did as the angel of the Lord had directed him and received her into his home as his wife. He had no relations with her at any time before she bore a son, whom she named Jesus.

REFLECTION
Through the power of the Holy Spirit over Mary, God is Emmanuel, God-with-us.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Virgin Mary, hear my prayer:
Through the Holy Spirit you become the Mother of Jesus: from the Holy Spirit may I too have Jesus.
Through the Holy Spirit you were able to know Jesus, to possess Jesus, and to bring him into the world through the Holy Spirit, may I too come to know your Jesus.
Imbued  with the Spirit, Mary, you could say: "I am the handmade of the Lord, be it done unto me according to your word": in the Holy Spirit lowly as I am, let me proclaim the great truths about Jesus
In the Spirit you now adore Jesus as Lord and look on him as Son; in the same Spirit, Mary let me love your Jesus.

DAY 24.     THE WISE MEN FIND THE CHILD
                      WITH MARY HIS MOTHER

SCRIPTURE READING     Matthew 2:1-12
After Jesus' birth in Bethlehem of Judea during the reign of King Herod, astrologer from the east all one day in Jerusalem inquiring, "where is the newborn king of the Jews? We observed his star at its rising and have come to pay him homage."  At this news King Herod became disturbed, and with him all Jerusalem. Summoning all of the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. "In Bethlehem of Judea," they informed him. And you, BETHLEHEM. land of Judah, are by no means least among the princes of Judah, since from you shall come a ruler who is to shepherds my people Israel.."
Herod called the astrologers aside and found out from them the exact time of the of the star's appearance. Then he sent him to Bethlehem, after having instructed them: ' go and get detailed information about the child. When you have found him, report it to me so that I may and offer him a homage too."
After their audience with the king, they set out. The star which they had observed at its rising went ahead of them until it came to a stand-still over the place where the child was. They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house, found the child with Mary his mother. The prostrated themselves and did homage. Then they opened their coffers and presented him with a gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
They received a message in a dream not to return to Herod. So they went back to their own country by another route.

REFLECTION
We too are pilgrims, searching for Jesus, who is found with Mary his mother.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Dear Mary, my mother, you are everything that I love and admire. You are holy, you are pure, you are loving, you are kind. You are a perfect mother Mary: help me to be a Worthy child. Help me to pray when I find it hard. Help me to be pure in the in the face of all temptations, help me to love those you love, help me to be kind to everyone. Dear Mother of God, help me with your grace to be in some small way like you so that, , like you, I may some day enjoy the presence of your Son. Amen.

DAY 25.        THE FLIGHT INTO EGYPT
(Prayer of the faithful.  II. )
OPENING PRAYER
All powerful and ever living God, you give us a new vision of your glory in the coming of Christ your Son.
He was born of the Virgin Mary and came to share our life.
May we come to share his eternal life in the glory of your kingdom, where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.    Matthew 2:13-18
After they had left, the angel of the Lord suddenly appeared in a dream to Joseph with the command: "Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you otherwise. Herod is searching for the child to destroy him." Joseph got up and took the child and his mother and left that night, for Egypt. He stayed there until the death of Herod, to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
"Out of Egypt I have called my son."

REFLECTION
Even as a child, the Son of Mary is persecuted. We thank Joseph, the humble servant and protector of the Holy Family.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Hail Mary,
Hope of Christians, hear the prayer of a sinner who loves you tenderly, honours you in special manner, and places in you the hope of salvation.
I owe you my life, for you obtain for me the grace of your Son and you are the sure pledge of my eternal happiness.
I entreat you, deliver me from the burden of my sins, take away the darkness of my mind, destroy the earthly affection of my heart, defeat the temptations of my enemies, and rule all the actions of my life.
With you as my guide may I arrive at the eternal happiness of heaven.
     (ST JOHN DAMASCENE)

DAY 26.        THE HOLY FAMILY RETURN
                           TO NAZARETH
(Prayer of the faithful.  IX.  )
OPENING PRAYER
Father, you have given us the mother of your Son to be our queen and mother. With the support of her prayers may we come to share the glory of your children in the kingdom of heaven.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.    Matthew 2:19-23
But after Herod's death, the angel of the lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt with the command: "Get up, take the child and his mother, and set out for the land of Israel. Those who had designs on the life of the child are dead." He got up, took the child and his mother, and returned to the land of Israel.
He heard, however, that Archelaus had succeeded his father Herod as king of Judea, and he was afraid to go back there. Instead, because of a warning received in a dream, Joseph went to the region of Galilee. There he settled in a town called Nazareth. In this way what was said through the prophets was fulfilled. "He shall be called a Nazarene."

REFLECTION
Like Moses and the Israelites of the Old Testament, the Holy Family Geos from Egypt to the Holy Land.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
O Blessed Virgin Mary, you are the Mother and Queen of every Christian family. When you conceived and gave birth to Jesus, human motherhood reached its greatest achievement.
From the time of the Annunciation you were the living chalice of the the Son of God made Man. You are the Queen of the home. As a woman of faith, you inspire all mothers to transmit faith to their children.
Watch over our families. Let the children learn free and loving obedience inspired by your obedience to God. Let parents learn dedication and selflessness based on your unselfish attitude.
Let all families honour you and remain devoted to you, So that they may be held together by your example and your intercession.

DAY 27.         GOD'S SON IS BORN
                         OF A WOMAN, MARY
(Prayer of the faithful.  III. )
OPENING PRAYER
Lord Jesus Christ, you chose the Virgin Mary to be your mother, a worthy home in which to dwell. By her prayers keep us from danger and bring us to the joy of heaven, where you live and reign with the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.       Galatians 4:4-7
But when the designated time had come, God sent forth his Son born of a woman, born under the law, to deliver from the law those who were subjected to it, so that we might receive our status as adopted sons. The proof that you are sons is the fact that God has sent forth into our hearts the spirit of his Son which cries out "Abba" ("Father!"). You are no longer a slave but a son! And the fact that you are a son makes you an heir, by God's design.

REFLECTION
God's plan of salvation depends upon Mary.
By her yes, she becomes the mother of Jesus Christ.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Hail, Mary, Mother of God. Venerable treasure of the whole universe, lamp that is never extinguished, crown of virginity, support of the true faith, indestructible temple, dwelling of him whom no place can contain, O Mother and Virgin!
Through you all the Holy Gospels call blessed the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hail, Mother of God; you enclosed under your heart the infinite God who no space can contain. Through you the Most holy Trinity is adored and glorified, the priceless cross is venerated throughout the universe.
Through you the heavens rejoice, and the angels and archangels are filled with gladness. Through you the demons are banished, and the tempter fell from heaven. Through you the fallen human race is admitted to heaven.
Hail, Mother of God; through you kings rule, and the only-begotten Son of God has become a star of light to those who were sitting in darkness and in the shadow of death.
      (ST CYRIL OF ALEXANDRIA)

DAY 28.        JESUS TAKES AWAY OUR SINS.
(Prayer of the faithful.  VI.  )
OPENING PRAYER
Father, the image of the Virgin is found in the Church. Mary had a faith that your spirit prepared and a love that never knew sin, for you kept her sinless from the first moment of her conception. Trace in our actions the lines of her love, in our hearts her readiness of faith. Prepare once again a world for your Son who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.     Romans 5:12-                                                                     14,17-19

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world and with sin death, death thus coming to all men in as much as all sinned - before the law there was sin in the world, even though sin is not imputed when there is no law - I say, from Adam to Moses death reigned, even over those who had not sinned by breaking a precept as did Adam, that type of the man to come.
If death began its reign through one man because of his offense, much more shall those who receive the overflowing grace and gift of justice live and reign through the one man, Jesus Christ.
To sum up, then: just as a single offense brought condemnation to all men, a single righteous act brought all men acquittal and life. Just as through one man's disobedience all became sinners, so through the one man's obedience all shall become just.

REFLECTION
The Second Adam, Jesus, born of Mary, reverses the sin of the first Adam. We are reborn in Jesus Christ.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Holy Mary, Queen of heaven, Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, and Mistress of the world, never did you forsake nor despise anyone. Look upon me, Lady, with an eye of pity, and obtain for me from your beloved Son the pardon of all my sins; that, as I now devoutly reflect on your holy and Immaculate Conception, so hereafter I may receive the reward of eternal happiness, through the gift of our Lord Jesus Christ, whom you as a virgin brought forth, and who, with the Father and the Spirit, live and reign in perfect Trinity, God, world without end. Amen.

DAY 29.      MARY, QUEEN OF HEAVEN.
(Prayer of the faithful.  IV.  )
OPENING PRAYER
Let us pray with Mary to the Father, in whose presence she now dwells.

Almighty Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, you have revealed the beauty of your power by exalting the lowly virgin of Nazareth and making her the mother of our Saviour.
May the prayers of this woman clothed with the sun bring Jesus to the waiting world and fill the void of incompletion with the presence of her child, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.  Revelation 12:1-10
A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of the twelve stars. Because she was with child, she wailed aloud in pain as she laboured to give birth. Then another sign appeared in the sky: it was a huge dragon, flaming red, with seven heads and ten horns; on his heads were seven diadems. His tail, swept a third of the stars from the sky and hurled them down to the earth. Then the dragon stood before the woman about to give birth to a son - a boy destined to shepherd all the nations with an iron rod. Her child was caught up to God and to his throne. The woman herself fled into the desert, where a special place had been prepared for her by God: there she was taken care of for twelve hundred and sixty days.
Then war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. Although the dragon and his angels fought back, they were overpowered and lost their place in heaven. Then the huge dragon, the ancient serpent known as the devil or Satan, the seducer of the whole world, was driven out; he was hurled down to earth and his minions with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have salvation and power come, the reigns of our God and the authority of his Anointed One. For the accuser of our brothers is cast out, who night and day accused them before our God."

REFLECTION
The Son of Mary gains victory for God's people. We have a firm hope in eternal life with God and with Mary, Queen of all saints.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Mary. great Mary. most blessed of all Marys, greatest among all women, great Lady, great beyond measure. I long to love you with all my heart; I want to praise you with my lips; I desire to venerate you in my understanding; I love to pray to you from my deepest being. I commit myself wholly to your protection.
                 (St. Anselm)

DAY 30.    MARY, QUEEN OF ALL SAINTS
(Prayer of the faithful.  X.  )
OPENING PRAYER
Let us pray that the Virgin Mary will help us with her prayers.

Almighty God, you gave a humble virgin the privilege of being the mother of your Son, and crowned her with the glory of heaven. May the prayers of the Virgin Mary bring us to the salvation of Christ and raise us up to eternal life.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

SCRIPTURE READING.     Revelation 21:1-5
Then I saw new heavens and new earth. The former heaven and the former earth had passed away, and the sea was no longer. I also saw a new Jerusalem, the holy city. coming down out of heaven from God, beautiful as a bride prepared to meet her husband. I heard a loud voice from the throne cry out: This is God's dwelling among men. He shall dwell with them and they shall be his people and he shall be their God who is always with them. He shall wipe every year from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, crying out or pain, for the former world has passed away."
The One who sat on the throne said to me, "See. I make all things new!" Then he said. "Write these matters down, for the words are trustworthy and true!"

REFLECTION

DAY 31.      MARY QUEEN OF APOSTLES,
                      PRAYS WITH THEM.
(Prayer of the faithful.  I.  )
OPENING PRAYER
God our Father, you gave the Holy Spirit to your apostles as they joined in prayer with Mary, the mother of Jesus. By the help of her prayers keep us faithful in your service and let our words and actions be so inspired as to bring glory to your name.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING.   Acts of the Apostles
                                                  1:6-14
While they were with him they asked, Lord, are you going to restore the rule of Israel now?" His answer was: "The exact time it is not yours to know. The Father has reserved that to himself. You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes down on you; then you are to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, yes, even to the ends of the earth." No sooner had he said this then he was lifted up before their eyes in a cloud which took him from their sight.
They were still gazing up into the heaven when two men dressed in white stood beside them. "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking up at the skies? This Jesus who has been taken from you will return, just as you saw him go up into the heaven."
After that they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet near Jerusalem a mere sabbath's journey away. Entering the City, they went to the upstairs room where they were staying: Peter and John and James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus; Simon, the zealot party members, and Judas son of James. Together they devoted themselves to constant prayer. There were some women in their company, and Mary the mother of Jesus and his brothers.

REFLECTION
The mother of Jesus Christ is present at the birth of the Church, the body of Christ. Mary is with us as we pray.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Most holy Virgin of the Cenacle, obtain for us the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
May we live in love and perseverance united in prayer under your guidance and teaching for the greater glory of God. May we labour both by words and by work for the salvation of souls and so deserve to enter everlasting life.

Graciously be near us in our present needs, and comfort us by your power. By your intercession may almighty God be pleased to grant us the favours for which we earnestly pray.

Listening Ears of the Laity to the Priest on the Pulpit

Listening Ears of the Laity to the Priest on the Pulpit.  Edited by  Raphael Arinze Sometimes, I always ponder why those who are called Christians always behave like pegans; like unbelievers.  What is happening? And what could be the cause? When Christians are supposed to be the light to the whole, salts of the earth....., As Jesus Christ put it for us. Despite all the provisions and equipment, made available in a spiritual realm to keep us going, no matter any circumstances and derived demand to traits our minds back forward. Our live as Christians  don't align with the demands of a Christian call. Let us face it.  Christians are made to always represent Christ all places in everywhere as the case maybe.  Why do we often fail? when we always read the Bible and go to church as we practice.  The Spirit of God is always in us,  and for it to be active in our lives; God bestows His Spirit upon his Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ so that we can bost ...

Always Remember God in Everything that you Do by Ugwueze Christian Ndubisi.

Always Remember God in everything that you do by Ugwueze Christian Ndubisi. "A DAILY ADVICE BY MR. CHRISTIAN NDUBISI TO THE FAMILY"  In this life, we will face different challenges. Challenges that can even makes you to forget the existence of God, or even if you remember; you will have a doubting spirit. But know that God was never a man, and He cannot be a man. Suffering may present to you as if you are the worst sinner, but bear in your minds that clear conscience justify the cause of true liberty.     Mostly, every human aspiration is to have enough, but when something like that is lacking, it might appear to you as if you are not all that prayerful as you ought to be. Or it may seems that God have rejected you. Even when you commit yourself in constant prayer and nothing is coming out positively - unjustified questions will be raising from your mind. But we should look at Job in the Bible. He was a righteous man, but you know the whole story; the abundant ...
