Nest Mentality in Church Leads to Judgement and Exclusion by Pope Francis.

Christian must be on guard and avoid the temptation of thinking themselves better than others, an attitude that risks running the church into a place of "separation and not communion." "Let us ask for the grace to overcome the temptation to judge and to categorize." "And may God preserve us from the 'nest' mentality, that of jealously guarding ourselves in the small group of those who consider themselves good: the priest with his loyal followers, the pastoral workers closed in among themselves so that no one can infiltrate, the movements and associations in their own particular charism, and so on."

With the reflection of Pope Francis on the Sunday Gospel readings in the apostle John complained to Jesus about someone who drove out demons in Jesus' name but was not among his followers.

"Don't prevent him. There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill  of me," Jesus said.

The disciples, "would like to hinder a good deed simply because it is performed by someone who did not belong to their group" because they believed that they had "the exclusive right over Jesus"  and that they were "the only ones authorized to work for the kingdom of God."

However, by falling into the temptation of  "being closed," they ended up thinking they are privileged and consider others as outsiders to the point of "becoming hostile toward them." "Every moment of being closed tends to keep us at a distance from those who do not think like we do, and this - as we know - is the root of so many evils in history: of the absolutism that has often generated dictatorships and so much violence toward those who are different."

The Church, is not immune to that temptation, because the devil "insinuates suspicious to divide and exclude people."

"We, sometimes, instead of being humble and open communities, can give the impression of being at the 'top of the class' and keeping others at a distance; instead of trying to walk with everyone, we can show off our 'believer's license.'" "I am a believer; I am Catholic; I belong to this or that association; and the others, poor things, do not. This is a sin. Showing off one's 'believer's license' to judge and exclude."

The Holy Spirit wants openness in the Church so that "there is a place for everyone." Jesus also warns that instead of "judging everything and everyone," Christian should instead look to "be careful of ourselves" and that "if something in you causes you to sin, cut it off."

"Jesus is radical in this, demanding, but for our own good, like a good doctor. Every cut, every pruning is so that we can grow better and bear fruit in love."

Ministers of God and their people by Rev Fr Benjamin Anthony

Ministers of God and their Community by Rev Fr Benjamin Anthony. Today's readings are talking about the cost of being in Christ and responding to God's call to be a minister.  Reading mostly emphasizes you in the account of the grace to persevere on Making God's call a foundation of total dependence on God no matter any rejection. According to the Gospel of Mark 6:4; that says that " A prophet is respected everywhere except in his town and by his relative and his family". And this typically runs on the main team of today's readings. This very rejection started from Jesus Christ himself who is the root of all ministers. Jesus, the son of God passed many rejections and many insults, mostly in his hometown. And to this, we should not be surprised when things alike happen to us for it's part of the call. But note this; Jesus Christ could not perform miracles in his hometown as he did in other towns, tribes, and countries. For this, when king. Herod wanted to t...

Let the word of God dwell in you by Raphael Arinze

Let the word of God dwell in you. Edited by Raphael Arinze . I'm sharing this article to you to encourage you to keep faith in God as you journey in life. Life is not all that easy, in any way it's not ours; not our home. Many things have been occupied our minds in purpose of being worried how yesterday gives credits to us, how today is benefiting us, and how tomorrow will be to us. Is what we eat, wear, live in nor have extra to keep?  Our lives, sometimes, give us some certain question when we all desire better than what it present. So many times, we go here and there due to our lack of materialism. But, I want to tell you that life itself is an unmerited gift from God. He alone knows what and how tomorrow will be. He is the author, alpha and Omega. He is to be followed in any course of our lives. Focusing on God is the only way to solve this critics question that lives present to us. It may seem inconveniences but it is connatural. It is part of us so that we can fully adm...

CATHOLIC CHURCH ETIQUETTE

When we talk about the word "Etiquette", etymologically it is not only applied to behavior at a party, dining table or formal meeting. There is also Church Etiquette which is neglected at the Holy Mass as follows: 1.   One must fast for at least 1 hour before receiving the Holy Eucharist. The only exceptions are medicine, water or unless someone is ill and needs to eat. 2.   Dress modestly; the Holy Mass is not a fashion show. The Holy Mass is not a part of American fashion display. Dress in a way that gives witness to your faith as a Christian and not to seduce anyone. 3.   Go early to Holy Mass, at least 30 to 15 minutes before the Holy Mass begins. And be as close to the altar as possible in order to pray silently and meditate before the Holy Mass begins. 4.    Before entering the Church (that is when there is no exposition of the Blessed Eucharist), make a single genuflection by your knee and also make a deep bow towards the Tabernacle....
